Painting a stronger future, one lane at a time
We are a chapter of the national Strong Towns movement working in the greater Amarillo area, striving to shape our communities into places that prioritize modal freedom, fiscal responsibility, and physical & mental health.
Inspired by the Strong Towns mission, we advocate for development patterns that reject post-World War II sprawl and instead foster human-centered neighborhoods where walking, biking, and exploring are safe, enjoyable, and accessible choices for everyone.
Our Vision
We envision a Texas panhandle where:
Modal freedom thrives: Streets are designed for people first, creating safe choices for travel that include cars, walking, bicycling, and other micromobility options.
Fiscal resilience guides growth: Infrastructure investments are sustainable, avoiding long-term liabilities.
Physical & Mental health: smart city design fosters places where people can connect with each other and feel safe to use active transportation
How We Work
As a nonprofit, we focus on actionable strategies to:
Identify the next smallest thing: What small thing can we do today to make our streets safer? Let’s do it!
Redesign streets for safety: Promote Safe Streets for All policies and quick-build solutions to prioritize pedestrians, cyclists, and micro-mobility.
End harmful subsidies: Challenge mandates that waste land on car storage instead of vibrant public spaces.
Advocate for smart zoning: Push for incremental housing to create affordable, walkable neighborhoods.
Why It Matters
The Texas panhandle’s history—where cattle drives carved trails into the land and railroad connections spurred growth—has profoundly shaped our infrastructure, culture, and community identity. By embracing development strategies that match our region’s evolving needs, we can honor our region’s resilience while building communities that thrive economically, socially, and environmentally.
Join Us
Together, we can ensure our cities grow smarter, not just bigger. Let’s collaborate to create a panhandle where every street invites connection and every neighborhood strengthens our collective future.
Let’s build a stronger Texas panhandle—one lane at a time.
